"Who owns my translation?" (Intellectual property rights and submission of translations memories), Buenos Aires, 4/9/10

The International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters puts a key and neglected matter for discussion.

For some time now, we translators have been hearing the pitches of several companies that tell us of the wonders of translation memory banks shared on the Internet. But that's just their viewpoint: They're trying to sell us their product. Okay, but are we really aware of our level of accountability when we hand over the documents of our clients? Do we understand that we can be sued for handing over our clients' documents to third parties? In short, do we understand that our translations are not really "ours"? Attorney Guillermo Cabanellas de las Cuevas will help us better understand this sensitive and highly current issue, about which not nearly enough has been said — not, at least, from the translator's standpoint.

"Who owns my translation?" (Intellectual property rights and submission of translations memories). Dr. Guillermo Cabanellas de las Cuevas.

Buenos Aires, September 4, 2010.

The three speeches (Banfi's, Cabanella's, and Baker's will be recorded and uploaded to our website).
